3rd Grade

I obtained my Bachelor's degree to teach Elementary Education K-6 in May of 2013 from Tennessee Technological University. While in my second year of teaching, I began working on my Master's degree. I finished my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction of Mathematics in February of 2016 from University of Texas at Arlington.

During college, my residency placement was for a full year in Kindergarten at Bel-Aire Elementary in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Following graduation, I became an Educational Assistant for Tullahoma City Schools. This is where I was able to dabble with many grades! I worked with a small group for 1st grade math intervention and a large group of 12 for 2nd grade advanced reading. I also had the luxury of teaching all fourth grade classes their Social Studies and Science. In fifth grade, I pulled a group of 10 for novel studies.

Then, the military led my family to Fort Carson, Colorado. I was lucky enough to immediately find a job teaching second grade on their military base. I worked there from October 2013 until December 2015 when I went on maternity leave for my son.

My name is Amberly Hodges and I am very excited about this year at Hickerson Elementary!

I was born in Maryville, TN which is close to Knoxville. This must be why my blood runs orange- Go Vols! My family has lived in many different states but Tennessee has always felt like home. A few of my favorite things are Fall, candles, spending my days by the pool, and shopping! I have a little boy named Jaxton who is my entire world! He was born in January of 2016. I have been blessed with the most wonderful son, family, and friends.

Teaching has been my career choice since third grade. I was never quite lucky enough to have one teacher stand-out to me, challenge me, or make me want to come to school. This is what I strive for every day in my career!

I look forward to the best year yet with your student!
